It is a hot summer night and you are in the mood for something cold. You bypassed the ice cream (which you know is fattening) and opted instead for the Tasti D-lyte. However you couldn’t resist adding a topping. After all, you didn’t get the ice cream so you deserve a little treat!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve women coming out of Tast D-lite (or any of those other low cal frozen yogurt shops) with a medium or large size container “alternative ice cream” loaded with toppings. I decided to do a little investigation to see how bad or not so bad these toppings were.

On my way home from the gym, I pass Tast D-lite. While I find it slightly tasteless, I will stop in on occasion. The other night, I decided to ivestigate the nutritional content of some of the toppings. You may have noticed the toppings that they sell on the side (sprinkles, chocolate chips, carob chips, crushed oreo cookies, crushed reeces pieces, granola, etc.). These little plastic containers contain 4 Tablespoons of toppings. I purchased several of them: granola, sprinkles, chocolate chips and reese pieces. I think the guy who works there thought I was having a sugar attack. I then attempted to have a conversation with him regarding how much of the topping he would actually add to the dish of Tasti D-lyte. (He appeared slightly nervous and confused as I was grilling him. He might of thought I was from Tasti D-lite corporate headquarters!) However, he was able to tell me that if someone orders their topping on their Tasti D-lyte (not on the side), he will give approximately 2 Tablespoons of toppings.

Bottom line, your best bet is to get your frozen treat plain – or order fruit for a topping if they have it. If you absolutely must have a not so healthy topping, get a small portion (2 T.) on the yogurt – not that container on the side.
Note: I had a little difficulty finding the nutritional content of sprinkes. The websites I use reported a range of calories as stated above.
