Our AFC Urgent Care TN team explains all about our state-of-the-art labs below and how our different tests can help you feel better faster.
Having a lab on site at all of our locations helps our staff run tests faster, which means you don’t have to wait as long to receive your results and following treatment plan. We offer rapid tests that can detect illnesses like the flu, strep throat and RSV in as little as 10 minutes! We also can run a urinalysis or culture to check for signs of infection.
Another common test we run through our lab is called a CBC, or complete blood count. This test takes a sample of your blood and runs it through a machine that counts and measures your different blood cells. The results of this test can give us a good starting point to your current condition because any sort of deviation or variation from regular levels can indicate an underlying issue.
Diagnoses Possible Following a CBC
- Anemia
- An infection
- Immune system disorders
- Blood diseases

While you always want to take your illnesses and conditions seriously, it may be helpful to know that anemia is really common and we see it often! Anemia can be diagnosed when your CBC shows a low number of red blood cells in your blood. Lightheadedness, dizziness, fatigue and a rapid heartbeat are also common symptoms, so all of this can come together as an anemia diagnosis.
Thankfully, mild to moderate anemia can be managed with a simple diet change and incorporating more iron into the foods you eat. It is important to take steps to treat your anemia, as moderate cases can turn severe and can impact your heart and lung health over time.
Add More Iron Into Your Diet
- Eat iron-rich foods like lean meat, fish, eggs and dried beans.
- Consume more folic acid from dark, leafy green vegetables.
- Increase your vitamin D intake.
- Take an iron supplement if prescribed.
