They are found in wooded areas in Africa, Asia, and America. The fruit can be eaten raw and is also used in juices, jams, and alcoholic drinks. In some regions of Asia the leaves are also cooked as a vegetable.

Ximenia Caffra

Ximenia Caffra fruits are native to tropical Africa. They grow mostly in East and Southeast African nations to include Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Uganda, and South Africa. This oblong fruit is less than 2” long and an inch in diameter, and is sometimes called the sourplum.

The skin is red when ripe with an orange to red juicy pulp. It is often made into jams and jellies, and like most red & orange pulped fruits is high in vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, and several other micronutrients.

Xinomavro

Xinomavro is a red wine grape grown in Macedonia and Greece. Until 2010 the total world cultivation of these grapes was under 5,000 acres, but in 2013 some were planted in China. The rich red wine produced from these grapes is said, by some, to be the best wine made in Greece.
