Know what happens when you consume instant noodles?
Instant noodles are one of the kids’ favorite foods and your rescue meal plan when there’s nothing available that you can cook in no time. However, do you know what happens when you consume instant noodles?
As per a study conducted by Dr. Braden Kuo, Gastroenterologist, Massachusetts General Hospital, using pill cameras in subjects who were asked to consume instant noodles and fresh homemade ramen noodles every other day during the study; Dr. Kuo found that while the homemade ramen noodles got instantly digested in 1-2 hours, the so-called instant noodles did not break up, were intact and undigested in the stomach even hours after consumption.

What was more surprising in the study was how the stomach tried to move back and forth to digest or break down instant noodles. The culprit behind this was cited as the preservatives present in Instant noodles.

As per Dr. Braden Kuo, “At two and four hours, the particular size of the ramen noodle was much larger or formed than the homemade ramen noodle at each of those time points, suggesting ramen noodles were difficult to break down into an infinite particulate matter during the process of digestion.”
According to FDA, the main preservative in Instant noodles is Tertiary-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) that can cause sickness, weaken organs if eaten in routine over a long period of time and increase the risk of tumors and cancers. TBHQ is used in perfumes, too.
Apart from TBHQ, Propylene Glycol is used in Instant noodles to maintain their texture even when cooked in hot water. The same product is used in tobacco products.

Most of the Instant or cup noodles come in packages that contain Bisphenol A (BPA) that enters your body when these instant noodles are cooked in the cup itself by adding super hot water. BPA can destroy your metabolism.
Apart from these synthetic chemicals, the Sodium, Corn Syrup, Palm Oil and Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) are other ingredients that come with their own side-effects.
The above reasons are enough to keep your kitchen slabs uncluttered from Instant Noodles. Do not feed ill-health to your loved ones. If you have some noodle lovers at your home, go for fresh homemade ramen noodles instead of the Instant variety!
