JOY REID USES ALOPECIA STRUGGLE OF PRESSLEY AS A WARREN COMMERCIAL

I am not a novice to politics having been involved in radical and electoral politics since I was 14 years old. Despite my experience certain tactics in the electoral arena stick in my craw. Not the candidates on issues but strategies that reflect what I consider “low blows” or unprincipled behavior. That is perhaps why I who until recently shared affiliation with the Sanders-Warren wing of the Dem Party on issues. But the attempt to cast Sanders as a “sexist” by leaking information by the Warren camp was beyond the pale.

Now I find myself in the same conflict with MSNBC host Joy Reid of “AM Joy.” While I share many of her views on inclusion of people of color in the Presidential elections her actions of late leave much to be desired. She interviewed Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley. A queen who showed so much courage in sharing publicly her struggle with Alopecia. Especially because of countless women and people of African descent and what hair (pelo bueno or malo) has meant historically in our communities.

But then here came the rub. Joy Reid turned the interview into a commercial for the Warren campaign and reinforcing Sanders demonization as “sexist.” Playing on the emotions of viewers and need for more women in elected office to promote her own pro-Warren agenda.

I had already given Joy Reid a pass when she declared Michael Blake “Winner of the Week” a month ago and endorsed his candidacy for the 15th Congressional district held by a Latino/Puerto Rican congressman Jose Serrano for 40 years. She ignored all the other candidates including Chivona Newsome, founder of Black Lives Matter, activist and AOC supporter Samelys Lopez, Afro-boricua councilman Ritchie Torres, and nine others. These political agendas masking as media and information is disgraceful. Just like politicians, media personalities, even progressive ones like Joy, must be held accountable. Familia, it is about respect.

Joy Reid may have been the last largely Latino-less MSNBC TV host, along with Rachael Maddow and Chris Hays, I held out some hope to feed my politics addiction. But alas it may be time to stick largely to alternative media like WBAI, Amy Goodman, the Intercept, Black Agenda Report and others. Sister Joy Reid acting as a media surrogate for Warren is beneath you and a true offense to independent journalism.
