With modern technology, plastic surgery is an advancement that is accessible by many people looking to transform their bodies and gain confidence. At Mia Aesthetics, we strive to offer high-quality, personalized and affordable plastic surgery for people from all walks of life.
While most people in good health are candidates for plastic surgery, there are some actions and health conditions that may disqualify you from getting surgery. Below we go over a list of what can disqualify you from having plastic surgery:

1. Drugs in Your System On the day of your surgery, you will have a urine test to ensure there are no drugs of any kind in your system – that includes amphetamines and nicotine. If you have a prescription for Adderall, you must stop use of it 30 days prior to your procedure. If you are a smoker, you must also be sure to stop smoking or using nicotine products 30 days prior to surgery. These substances can cause unprecedented complications during your procedure or may result in you having a longer and harder recovery after surgery.

2. BMI out of Operating Range Body mass index is a way to measure a person’s body composition. Although BMI is not a perfect analysis of a person’s weight class and overall health, is a convenient rule of thumb used to broadly categorize a person as underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese based on tissue mass (muscle, fat, and bone) and height.
At Mia Aesthetics, body mass index for all surgeries except tummy tucks and combo procedures must be lower than 34 upon arrival for surgery. BMI for tummy tuck and combo procedures, like a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) and a breast augmentation, for example, must be 32 or less. On the day before your surgery, our nurses will evaluate you and make sure you are in good health for your upcoming procedure. If your BMI is higher than where it needs to be at this time, we may have to cancel or postpone your procedure.
3. Having an Undisclosed Health Condition Ahead of your procedure, you are required to fill out a medical questionnaire and to receive a medical clearance from your primary care provider. This is done in order to ensure you are in good health and have no major health conditions. If on the day of surgery, we receive information that you have undisclosed health condition, we may have to cancel you to ensure your health and safety.

4. High Blood Pressure On the day of your procedure, we will take your blood pressure to ensure it is within a healthy range. If your blood pressure falls within a very high range on the day of surgery, you may be cancelled. Patients with high blood pressure have a higher risk of complications during surgery such as reduced blood flow to the heart and heart attack. Depending on the severity of your high blood pressure, we may choose to cancel or postpone you for your safety.
5. Pregnancy In most cases, surgery during pregnancy is avoided whenever possible, to minimize complications for both the fetus and the mother. On the day of surgery, you will take a pregnancy test to ensure you are not pregnant. If you are pregnant, you will be cancelled and have to wait until six months after you give birth to reschedule your procedure.
6. Failure to Pay for Surgery Lastly, you can be cancelled for your procedure if you fail to pay for your procedure in full by the day before your surgery. At Mia Aesthetics, we give our patients many different payment options to ensure they are able to meet the cost of each procedure. If you are unable to meet the full cost of your surgery by your surgery date, you can always ask your concierge to reschedule your surgery date, allowing for an extension on your final payment.
