Michael Acevedo age 77 of Rock Rapids, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, IA.

The Acevedo family will be receiving family and friends on Friday evening January 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Following the visitation, the family invites the public to join them at the Rock River Country Club in Rock Rapids for a time of celebration of Michael’s life.
Michael L. Acevedo was born on September 3, 1946, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of Louis and Barb (Leatart) Acevedo. At an early age, Michael and his family moved to Orange County, California. After he graduated from high school he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam. He received his honorable discharge and returned to Anaheim, California, where he was a warehouse manager for A.E.R. Electric.
In 1989 he married Trudy Faber in California. In early 1994, they moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa, where Michael worked at Jay’s Hotel. He worked there until he suffered a stroke on January 13, 2013. Because of failing health, he entered Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, Iowa, where he remained until this past Monday, January 15, 2024, when he passed away at the age 77.
Michael was a member of the Van Anne-Fields Post No. 6960, VFW of Rock Rapids, Iowa. In his younger years he enjoyed playing competitive slow pitch softball, later coaching his children’s baseball and soccer teams. He was an avid LA Laker, and U.C.L.A. fan. He was known for his sense of humor and his exceptional cooking. He also was known for riding his bike everywhere around town.

Most of all Michael loved to be with his children and all of their friends. He adored his grandchildren and was very proud to see his kids start families of their own.
He is survived by wife, Trudy Acevedo; two sons, Brandon (Kjirsti) Acevedo, and their daughter, Mabel, of Sioux Falls, SD, and Jordan (Kara) Acevedo, and their children, Conley and soon to be twins, of Sioux Center, IA; a daughter, Allyson Acevedo (special friend, Tahaje) and their daughter, Sahar, of Sioux Falls, SD; his children from California, Michael Jr., Dana and Morgan; one brother, Ricky Acevedo of California.
He was preceded by his parents, Louis and Barb Acevedo; two grandchildren, Emery and Grayson Acevedo; and brother, Derek Acevedo.
Michael’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you for all of the care provided by the staff at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.
