I have been searching for the perfect natural Vitamin C serum and I found it with Fleur & Bee’s Nectar of the C Vitamin C Serum. This post is not sponsored by Fleur & Bee, I am simply a very happy customer and I want to share it with you because I truly believe that this serum can cure your skin woes without causing further damage, something some serums unfortunately can do. I have been avoiding Hyaluronic Acids in my skincare because it is so damaging to our skin, something I shared about in a recent post, which you can find by clicking right here. The gist of it is that Hyaluronic Acid is marketed as a skin rejuvenating cure for the signs of aging, but it can actually cause more aging and damage instead. It dehydrates the skin, which makes it look more puckered and temporally disguises the look of fine lines and wrinkles, but in the long run can cause more. It is very drying and also breaks the skin barrier, which is why so many people experience dermatitis; rosacea, breakouts, and rashes after using HA. Not good!

I had bought a natural Vitamin C serum by Mad Hippie, that I was really excited about. The Mad Hippie brand is natural and a brands that I like, but the Hyaluronic Acid in the serum made unsafe for daily use. After the first day I noticed a big difference and I was impressed, but after a couple days my cheeks started to turn red and I was breaking out on my forehead, around my eyes, on my cheeks, and my chin. And I rarely get breakouts. My cheeks felt raw like a slight sunburn. The only thing I had changed had been the serum. I knew right away that it was causing my skin problems. That is when I found out that hyaluronic Acid (HA) is marketed extensively as a natural product that is good for your skin, but scientists have actually proven that it is bad for you. The beauty industry is good at selling us things that are actually bad for us. When these products cause more damage we then use even more. It is quite the marketing plan. I made the decision to ditch all HA’s right then and there. I stopped using the serum and my skin cleared up within a few days. The redness took about.a week to go away, but I have heard it takes longer for people who have been using it for longer periods of time. But I still wanted the benefits of Vitamin C because Vitamin C is good for our skin to reduce the damage caused by the sun.
I started the search for a Vitamin C serum that was natural and didn’t have HA, which was almost impossible! HA had taken over the industry. HA was in almost every serum I found. And I also wanted to find a serum that was safe for sensitive skin, like that of a friend of mine who has been searching for a good serum for herself. And that is when I found Fleur & Bee.

Even though I wear sunscreen extensively, I do have some skin damage because I spend so much time outdoors, especially in my childhood when I grew up on a lake. I was considering getting a laser skin treatment because I had heard so much about it (again, from the beauty industry and salons as well as my blogging friends). Although it does reduce scarring, dark spots, and sun damage, I found out that it is not recommended for people under forty because it can cause more skin damage and repeated exposure to laser treatments minimizes fat and tissue under the skin. This creates what has been nicknamed as “bacon face,” (by Mary Schook) the thinning of the facial tissue which can make people look older and more gaunt. It also makes wrinkles become more pronounced over time as the tissue beneath them is not puckering them out. As with anything I share with you, there are exceptions and it is always best to talk about these things with your doctor first. Laser treatments, when done properly by a professional doctor, can treat scarring and other skin conditions. I am so thankful I learned this before considering laser treatment for myself, but I was still left wondering what I could do for the sun spots on my cheeks and the fine lines around my eyes and forehead caused by the sun. Living a healthy lifestyle, getting proper rest, staying hydrated, and eating plenty of greens certainly helps, but like most people in their thirties, I wanted to do more for my skin.
Which brings us back to Vitamin C. Vitamin C is incredible for skin. Not only does it fade pigmentation and sun spots caused by sun damage to brighten skin, it is safe for sensitive skin, super hydrating, lightens under eye circles, boosts collagen, heals wounds (great for skin conditions too), and even firms skin. So much goodness in one little vitamin. I also love the affordability of this serum. It is under $30 while many serums can exceed $50. The best part is that it is completely natural. It is also 100% vegan, cruelty free, and Leaping Bunny certified.
The serum also includes damage fighting Vitamin E, aloe vera, and Ferulic Acid. The Ferulic Acid sounds scary, especially after learning about Hyaluronic Acid, but I assure you that this one is a good one to have in your skincare. So what is it? It is a natural antioxidant found in the cell wall of many plants. Yup, that’s it! It protects your skin against free radicals naturally and reduces Fien lines. When combined with Vitamin C and Vitamin E is a powerhouse of protection for your skin.

I have been happily using this Vitamin C serum every morning and every night and I am loving the effects it has had on my skin. As with any serum, it does make my skin feel a little tight and dry after the serum absorbs, so I put a skin moisturizer or oil on top after it dried to lock in the Vitamin C and moisture into my skin. I have noticed that my skin appears brighter and smoother after using the serum and I feel like my skin is so healthy. And yes, it is diminishing the appearance of that pesky fine line on my forehead. I don’t share products too often on this blog because I am so minimal with my own routines and I only share natural products that I absolutely love and believe in. This is definitely one of them.
