Here’s my review of another viral sun protection product by popular Korean skincare brand Isntree, the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick SPF50+ PA++++. I was using this sun stick all through the summer and have since set it aside to use some others in my collection too, but I have solid positive thoughts about it and how it was for my combination skin type as well as who I think it is suitable for and under what conditions I believe it should be used.
I briefly mentioned this sunscreen in a recent sunscreen collection post and today I’ll be sharing a more detailed review of my experience using it, and starting off with some general information.

UV Filters: Homosalate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (Octinoxate), Ethylhexyl Salicylate (Octisalate), Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (Uvinal A Plus), Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinosorb S).
Quantity & Packaging: 22g in a short square container with a turn-dial at the base to twist up the product. I like the blue on white packaging colour as it gives me quite a clean and minimal, calming water energy kind of sense.
Scent: No scent.
Appearance & Whitecast: An opaque pale yellow-tinged white cream bar that blends into the skin with no white cast on my light-medium skin tone. The shape of the stick is a unique long tear-drop which makes it easier to apply around the nose.
Texture & Finish: A soft powdery feeling texture that feels very weightless on the skin. You can start to feel a slight emollience with more swipes to the same area but it doesn’t feel uncomfortably greasy and sinks in well.
My Experience
Sun Sticks are so convenient when on the go, but I often find that with the number of swipes you’d need to apply for adequate protection, they can end up feeling greasier on the skin than the initial application. To have a comfortable texture and finish on my combination skin type, I prefer to use sunsticks as more of a supplemental top-up over a more creamy/ liquidy sunscreen, rather than for stand-alone protection.
That being said, I found the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick to have one of the softest and almost natural finishes on the skin even when layered and not as greasy feeling as others have been so that has been really pleasant, especially during the warmer months.
The Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick is indeed quite lightweight and airy which makes it very comfortable to apply. It also has a sleek teardrop shape making it easier to apply around the eyes and corners of the nose with the narrow tip, and quick smooth application to larger surface areas with the wider base.
The Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick also doesn’t leave a white cast or powdery residue on my skin. It doesn’t clog my pores or cause breakouts either. One of the other plus points is that it doesn’t make my eyes water or sting which is often a pain with sunscreens.
If you don’t wear makeup, I’d recommend a combo sunscreen approach by starting off with two finger lengths (1/4 teaspoon) worth of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel over your face, neck and ears, wait for it to absorb and set and then top up throughout the day with a few swipes of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick.
If you do wear makeup, I found the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sunstick to wear really well under makeup, providing a smooth and blurred base, so again I’d recommend starting off with the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel for a strong layer of protection, followed by a few swipes of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick to then fortify the protection but also to act as a makeup primer before applying your foundation. Something to note is that the swiping motion of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick, and any other sun stick to that matter, can potentially disrupt your make-up when re-applying on top throughout the day, so I actually prefer reapplying a liquid sunscreen such as the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel with a cushion puff instead as the dabbing motion causes the least disruption to what’s already on my face.
Sun sticks such as this Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick are probably the most convenient for re-applying on exposed areas of my body when I’m out and about. The compact size means I can pop it in my handbag or pocket, whip it out and swipe it over my hands, arms, legs, feet etc – of which I seem to be the most thorough with on my hands as it’s just so easy and doesn’t have a dry down time.
Although I find it most convenient on my body, I do still like applying the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick to my face and I’d recommend it to anyone with oily or combination skin as I’m sure those skin types will appreciate the lightweight texture and soft finish too.
