Yeeeeeeeah; there was no way I was resisting this one.
I was watching QVC late one night, as I often do when insomnia strikes, and when what should happen across my screen but a IT Cosmetics segment. (Is anyone surprised to learn I’m a QVC junkie? … Didn’t think so.) I already have and love their Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil (which I should remember to review soon), so I decided to watch and see what else they had up for offer.
Lo and behold, they brought out the No. 50 Serum Anti-Aging Collagen Veil Primer. With it touting such lovely skin care benefits, and me being so concerned about the changing texture of my skin lately, I was powerless to resist…
This is their original formula primer, which I must admit-I actually purchased by accident. Yes, I was watching it on QVC and was really interested in what they had to say about it buuuuuuut, all the same, I thought that this was a different item.
I had heard wonderful things about the IT Cosmetics primer on Emilynoel83‘s Youtube channel, and just had to jump at the chance to order some when I thought I saw it. I didn’t feel like getting out my tablet to double check, of course, and figured that the product on my screen had to be the one I vaguely remembered Emily-and other Youtbue beauty gurus-reviewing so positively. Why it didn’t occur to me that IT might have two primer formulas available, both with longish names, I do not know. The product Emily was reviewing turned out to be their “Feel The Moment™ Anti-Aging Ultra Hydrating Sensory Awakening Primer Serum” (what a mouthful!)…
Oops. But, hey, that’s what you get for shopping on television at 3 in the morning, right?
Anyhow, IT Cosmetics says that they created this particular primer: “to finally give women an ultra-hydrating dual-purpose oil blend serum that treats skin as it prepares it for makeup. IT Cosmetics worked with plastic surgeons to develop an anti-aging Serum Primer that is a true scientific breakthrough. It’s packed with 50 anti-aging ingredients that treats skin as it primes and works on all ages!”
The No. 50 Primer (which is much easier to remember than its full, drawn-out name) promises it was made for “Anyone who wants the power to achieve your most beautiful skin ever! Anyone who wants the anti-aging benefits of more than 50 beneficial ingredients, including hydrating anti-aging peptides, collagen, niacin, essential lipid-rich oils, vitamins, extracts and botanicals. Anyone who wants to instantly prime and protect their skin. Anyone who wants to diffuse the look of lines and wrinkles on the face, and achieve a more radiant looking, flawless and supple complexion.”
Nice. Mistake aside, this sounded just like what I was looking for after all. All those benefits are ones I can certainly get behind. Bring it on!
So, I took a gander at the ingredients. The ingredient list is rather long (they really did seem to include 50 anti-aging ingredients, as well as a host of others), so I won’t include it all here, but I was really impressed by some of the stuff that went into this primer-Hibiscus Flower Extract, Snail Secretion Filtrate, Cucumber Extract, Arnica Extract, Pineapple Extract, and Mallow Extract, just to name a few. So many skin soothing, firming, and hydrating ingredients. Very promising. They also promised this product is paraben, talc, sulfate free, and cruelty free-great! Perhaps this order was a happy accident after all.
That’s when it occurred to me that-in my rush to get my hands on this primer-I had never checked to see if it (either the version I thought I was ordering or the one I actually ordered) was silicone free.
Uh-oh.
I re-read the ingredient list and sure enough-there is silicone in this primer. ::insert sad trombone music here.::
I should have known, of course; most primers are silicone based, so I should have assumed as much about this one. My luck with silicone based products has habitually been poor-they cause me to breakout or rash up if used daily-but I couldn’t help myself when I heard those fantastic claims. I never even thought to look. Still, I figured, what the hell-why not give it a try? I already had QVC’s 30-day money back guarantee, and its already in my hands. I gave it a go. And you know what?
I. Love. This. Primer!
Before I go on spewing all my omgprimerluv, let me back up a second and get into some product details.

This primer comes housed in a 1 oz glass bottle, which retails for $48.00. It comes with the black pump-style cap on, with an alternate glass dropper top in the box. I chose to leave on the pump style for this one, as it has pretty good dispensing control and I am able to get out a small bit at a time, if needed. I find that one full pump is enough to do my whole face, with no waste.
This primer dispenses as a white gel-cream, but it goes on colorless when applied to the skin. It has a light, citrus-y scent to it that I find quite pleasant. The scent fades in seconds, so there is no lingering smell. The texture of the primer itself is very light and silky. It feels smooth as it is applied and it sinks in very quickly. It leaves the skin smooth to the touch and it does have a slight pore-blurring effect. I cannot attest to whether or not it is mattifying, as I personally have drier combination skin and don’t wind up with much shine by the end of the day, any which way.
Now, the first few times I wore this, I wasn’t paying all that much attention to how it was making my skin look, so much as how it was making my skin feel. It wore great throughout the day, without adding any extra heaviness to my face or causing me to itch. I wasn’t seeing my makeup crease in my fine lines as much either, which pleased me. What really amazed me, however, was when I removed my makeup after wearing it for the fifth day in a row. After all my foundation and whatnot was washed off, it revealed to a calm, clean face. Nary a pimple or a hive to be found.
Cue the choir of angels and the beam of heavenly light, shining down on me standing in front of my bathroom mirror! I had successfully worn a silicone containing primer for a full work week, with no skin reaction, and that is a first.
Now, somewhere in the middle of that week, a co-worker had stopped on her way into the office just to let me know that my skin was looking flawless, and to compliment whatever I had been doing differently. Gotta say that that was likely accredited to this primer. After that, I found myself taking a lot more covert glances at myself in the mirror throughout the day and I had to agree: my skin was looking smooth, even toned, and clear, better than I had seen it looking in a long, long time!
Verdict
I say again: I love this primer.
Flair for the dramatic aside, you might be wondering why this primer work so well on my skin where so many others have failed? Honestly, it beats the hell out of me. I have a fancy skin care education and should probably have a better answer for you, but really; I just don’t know. Past experiences lead my to believe that I do have a silicone sensitivity, but not outright allergy-its the products with a heavy silicone base that cause my skin to freak out. Still; silicone was pretty high on the list for this primer as well, so I think there is likely a hefty amount in there, but there must be something in this primer that somehow buffers the silicone enough to keep it from aggravating my skin. Damn; I wish I knew what that combination was, but whatever it is, it is downright magical to my sensitive skin!
I had intended to track down a bottle of the primer I originally meant to order-that “Feel The Moment” primer-but I have to say, with as good as this one has been to me… I’m not 100% sure I really care to now. Of course I’m curious to see how that one fares on my skin as well, so I just might for review purposes alone, but I am so darn happy with the No. 50 that I really don’t feel the need to go primer-hopping right now.
Could this be it, could this finally be the Holy Grail primer I’ve been searching for for so long? It has only been a bit over a month of wear thus far, so I don’t want to say yes without a doubt just yet, but I’m pretty positive that this primer and I will be honeymooning for quite a while!
