At the risk of flogging a clichéd aphorism or sounding like a tired has-been, things just aren’t the same as they were when I was growing up.
Instead of collecting Pokemon cards, Beyblades and Match Attax, the kids of today are hoarding bottles of PRIME. Even my nephew has succumbed to Logan Paul and KSI’s unrelenting quest for world domination.

During a recent visit, I received strict instructions to keep an eye out for the Lemonade flavour so he could add the bottle to his ever-growing shrine.
You do have to tip your hat to the duo, however. While their combined following guaranteed a certain level of success, the magnitude to which they’ve scaled PRIME is quite staggering.
In less than two years they’ve signed huge deals with Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, the UFC and various world-champion athletes.
Their marketing push has also involved Paul in particular comparing PRIMEd to other hydration drinks on the market, including, but not limited to, Gatorade.
Today, we’re going to be making our own unbiased comparison and seeing which one comes out on top.
Does PRIME Really Hydrate?
Paul claims PRIME Hydration is better than Gatorade for two main reasons: the sugar content and the electrolyte profile.

Gatorade does indeed have around 17 times the amount of sugar than PRIME per bottle, and if this contest was being scored by an untrained umpire then it would already be ‘advantage PRIME’.
But there’s a very good reason why it’s not. When we sweat the two main things we lose are water and salt, otherwise known as sodium.
That’s why you’ll sometimes see white, salty stains on your clothes after you exercise. It’s most common on hats as they tend to be worn on hot days and rarely make it to the washing basket.
A quick look at the back of both labels tells us that PRIME is high in potassium (700mg) and low in sodium (10mg), whereas Gatorade is high in sodium (270mg) and lower in potassium. It does, however, still contain a respectable 75mg.
In terms of achieving rapid rehydration and replacing the salt we’ve lost through sweat, sodium is by far the more beneficial electrolyte.
Now, we’ve still got to address the sickly elephant in the room: sugar.
All our lives we’ve been told sugar is inherently bad. It’s just a treat, right? So, when we see that Gatorade has 34g of sugar per bottle we freak out and instantly assume it’s not healthy.
Paul has been very clever in leaning into that rhetoric in his TikToks. But when it comes to getting electrolytes into your bloodstream, sugar, or glucose, effectively acts as a fast track.

Whether you’re still competing or have just finished, the goal would undoubtedly be to rehydrate as quickly as possible, meaning sugar, in this instance, is a necessary evil.
Besides, if you really were worried about the sugar content Gatorade and its competitors all offer sugar-free versions, so Paul’s point is rather mute.
Either way, if you compare Gatorade and PRIME as hydration drinks, there’s only one winner.
That’s not to say PRIME doesn’t have its own redeeming factors, because it does. Each bottle contains a broad vitamin profile and added benefits such as 250mg of BCAAs.
In fact, if it didn’t advertise itself as a hydration beverage, or take shots at seasoned competitors, then it would be quite an impressive formula.
But is it better than Gatorade as a means to achieving rapid rehydration? No, in our opinion, it’s not.
