How Cetaphil Clogged my Pores

How Cetaphil Clogged my Pores

As winters are just round the corner I wished to invest in a good moisturiser which I tend to skip using during summers.

I have oily skin and in winters I tend to get dry patches around my mouth and around my nose, hence the decision to invest in a good moisturiser.

I looked for a moisturiser which won’t be heavy on my skin as my T-zone remains slightly oily in winters too, a combination skin situation.

After weeks of research, YouTube videos, blogs and Instagram posts, wherein my key thought was to keep budget, results and overall user experience in mind, I decided upon Cetaphil(DAM) Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion.

Now, of course you may be wondering that it says right there, that it’s ULTRA HYDRATING girl..why would you put that on your oily skin!? But again, let me remind you I did watch videos and saw its texture and considered every little detail you could imagine.

The product, Cetaphil DAM says on the packaging that it’s “non-greasy/non-irritating” and it “won’t clog pores”, plus it’s “hypoallergenic” which were my biggest concerns.

It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin at all that’s for sure.

I used it after applying my essence lotion by Miniso and aloe gel, which I’ve been using for years and topping it off with Cetaphil DAM. This was my day and night routine. I’d switch aloe gel for a sunscreen which I’d apply on top of Cetaphil DAM lotion.

After a couple of days I started seeing some white heads around my mouth, which was strange since it’s the most dry area on my face and got clogged by the products.

I still wanted to give Cetaphil a fighting chance, so I removed the essence and aloe gel from my routine and continued using it.

To my amazement I was still waking up with tiny whiteheads around my mouth.

Since then I have discontinued using it and only apply it to my shoulders where I get some acne. It hasn’t reacted badly yet.

To be honest I am slightly disappointed by this product because I use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser to wipe off my makeup and sometimes to wash my face after I’ve removed my makeup, otherwise I use a gentle soap to wash my face, tap to read why.

I have gone back to my trusty Aloe Vera gel to infuse some moisture into my skin without having to deal with clogged pores.

I have previously used Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture which, I assure you, won’t clog your pores and is super light on the skin.

I might go back to Cetaphil DAM as the weather get harsher in December and January. If that happens, I will update you here and on my Instagram.

As for my skin, it has gotten slightly better; the whiteheads have left bumps which have given my skin a rough texture but I’m positive they will subside soon. Other than that I’m sticking to gel based moisturisers only.

Have you faced any of these problems with Cetaphil lotions?

Watch this reel on Instagram and let me know your experiences.

Thanks for reading folks, See-ya 🙂
