This post shares 7 benefits of consuming liquid chlorophyll regularly! Health benefits of chlorophyll include detox support, improved digestion, skin benefits, & more!

Liquid chlorophyll has gained a lot of popularity in recent years especially after going viral on TikTok! However, it’s been something my family has consumed in our water for years! You may be familiar with the chlorophyll found in plants – this is the same thing! Liquid chlorophyll is highly concentrated & has a lot of really amazing health benefits. The best part? It’s SO easy to incorporate into your daily wellness routine. You simply add a few drops to your water (or any beverage of choice) & you’re good to go!

Benefits of Consuming Liquid Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll, which gives plants their green color, has gained a lot of popularity recently for its potential health & detox benefits! You may remember hearing about chlorophyll in science class. Chlorophyll traps sunlight within plants & then converts that sunlight into energy. Chlorophyll harnesses the sun’s energy to support life & vitality for both plants & people. In liquid form, chlorophyll is also very rich in Vitamin A, C, E, K, beta carotene, magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, & essential fatty acids.

We already naturally consume chlorophyll when we eat green vegetables such as spinach, parsley, green beans, kale, & arugula, which are all rich in chlorophyll! The greener the vegetable, the higher concentration of chlorophyll! The amount of chlorophyll found in a liquid chlorophyll supplement, such as this one from Sunny Green or this one from Nature Sunshine, is highly concentrated! Due to such high concentration, consuming chlorophyll in a liquid form rather than in a cup of leafy greens, results in more apparent health benefits.

1. Skin

Chlorophyll can assist in improving skin quality & skin issues such as acne. The enzymes found in chlorophyll promote cell rejuvenation, which helps damaged skin heal faster. Chlorophyll also has anti-inflammatory & wound-healing properties. I read that you can buy chlorophyll in a gel form & apply it directly to pores & acne but I have never personally tried this.

It is important to note, consuming chlorophyll make increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. To prevent sun damage, be sure that you’re wearing SPF daily! I’d recommend this mineral SPF Moisturizer!

2. Healthy Weight Management

Consuming liquid chlorophyll was found to control hunger & lower cholesterol levels in individuals who consumed it daily, based on a small study published in 2016. It’s important to note, that there is limited evidence that supports consuming liquid chlorophyll or chlorophyll supplements is an effective method for weight loss.

3. Detox Your Blood & Liver

Consuming chlorophyll regularly can assist your body with restoring red blood cells & pulling toxins from your liver, which can help improve liver function. As a whole, chlorophyll oxygenates your body, which cleans out your blood. I’d recommend adding liquid chlorophyll to your morning glass of water to help flush toxins from the body!

4. Boosts Immunity

Adding liquid chlorophyll to your water is an easy way to boost your immunity due to the vitamins, minerals, & antioxidants present in chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has also been studied for its potential role in inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. According to a study, chlorophyll can help in improving blood platelets, reducing the occurrence of cancerous tumors, & the high amount of antioxidants can help in preventing cancers (source). Another study, done on rats, concluded that the chlorophyll found in green vegetables may decrease the risk for colon cancer (source). Scientists are still studying the effects of chlorophyll intake when it comes to cancers like liver, skin, stomach, & colon (source).

5. Combats Aging

Chlorophyll can help combat signs of aging by improving your skin & helping your body maintain strong bones & energy levels. Since chlorophyll is rich in antioxidants, it can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals & oxidative stress.

6. Digestion

Chlorophyll helps to promote healthy gut bacteria & may aid digestion thanks to antioxidant & anti-inflammatory properties!

7. Improve Hydration

I don’t know about you, but drinking water with some sort of flavor in it helps me to drink more water! Since liquid chlorophyll can be added to plain water or other beverages, it can contribute to improved hydration since you may find yourself drinking more liquids! Staying hydrated is so important for our overall health!

Liquid Chlorophyll Detox

As mentioned, there are several health benefits of consuming liquid chlorophyll regularly in your water. It’s recommended to consume 2-3 glasses of water with chlorophyll a week. However, consuming it daily, won’t cause harm. Liquid chlorophyll provides our bodies with an instant & safe way to detox, by pulling out toxins. Once the chlorophyll enters your body, it can bind together toxins, pollutants, & carcinogens, & flush them out. Be sure to check out this post for more way to detox the body naturally! I’m also a huge fan of this Medical Medium Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie for a safe way to draw out impurities from our bodies! The Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie contains ingredients like spirulina which is naturally high in chlorophyll too!

When first incorporating liquid chlorophyll into your wellness routine, start slow & gradually increase your frequency of use. You’ll want to make sure you follow the instructions & dosage based on the product & or brand you choose.

What does Chlorophyll taste like?

Chlorophyll is obviously dark green in color & looks so cool as it’s dropped into water. It does have a taste, not overwhelming, but it does have a minty taste if you get a flavored chlorophyll, like the one I have.

You can add mint leaves, lime, lemon, cucumber, or even add it to your green tea & add some honey! It might even be tasty if you add some raspberries or cut up watermelon to help add more flavor. Or you can keep it simple & easy & just stick to water or add a splash to a green smoothie!

The taste is refreshing & I’m not the biggest fan of mint-flavored things. Obviously, if you aren’t crazy about mint either, just add a drop or two instead of a splash into your water. Like I said, the taste is very muted & I’m sure it won’t be too bothersome.

The chlorophyll I have does come in different flavors such as Wintergreen (shown in my pictures), Peppermint, & Unflavored. I haven’t tried the unflavored, but if I had to guess, I would assume it tastes “earthy”.

Where can you buy Chlorophyll?

You can buy chlorophyll in a liquid, gel, or capsule form. Although I have only tried chlorophyll in liquid form, I read that capsules have all of the same benefits. The gel, as I mentioned earlier, is a great option for topical use. There are many brands of liquid chlorophyll on the market. I’ve personally used two brands of liquid chlorophyll, one from a brand called Sunny Green which is shown in the first photo & Nature’s Sunshine Liquid Chlorophyll!

As with any supplement, it’s important to choose reputable brands that prioritize purity, minimal ingredients, & overall quality. I recommend both the Sunny Green & Nature Sunshine.

Liquid Chlorophyll Side Effects

The side effects of chlorophyll are minimal, if any. Consuming liquid chlorophyll may cause minor side effects such as stomach discomfort, occasional diarrhea, & as mentioned, earlier, chlorophyll may also make your skin more sensitive to the sun. If you are currently taking a medication that lists sun sensitivity as a side effect, that’s definitely something to be mindful of as well.

As with anything, it’s best to talk with your doctor or healthcare provider prior to incorporating a new dietary supplement, especially if you have underlying health conditions, take medication, or are currently pregnant or breast feeding.

The many benefits of chlorophyll definitely make it a worthwhile addition to your daily wellness routine! It’s an easy way to support healthy detoxification, provides your body with antioxidant & anti-inflammatory support, & more!
