how to make bra racerback

Life hacks are amazing. They’re quick little do-it-yourself tricks that can change your life – or at the very least, you will be wondering how you ever lived without such simple yet valuable knowledge before. Since going braless is a super fashion faux pas – and highly uncomfortable for us larger breasted ladies, I’ve selected the best bra hacks that will fix you up when in a squeeze. No pun intended.

Make every bra a racerback whenever you need

Convertible bras are the latest trend, but they can also be pretty pricey. That’s also not to mention that running out to purchase a new bra 5 minutes before you’re supposed to be somewhere simply isn’t practical. So instead, just grab a paperclip (or a bra clip if you have one) and snap those straps together into a racerback. It’s a quick fix that will work in a pinch.

Create bra strap extensions

You’ve heard of hair extensions, but bra strap extensions? You betcha! There are so many times where we throw on our new low-back dress or top, only to find out that our bra is sticking out like a giant eye sore. The ladies with a smaller bust can simply go bra-free, but that’s just not an option for anything larger than a B. Instead of returning your fabulous fashion find, simply create bra strap extensions. This is easy to do if you have extra bra straps lying around, as you can just clip them together to make your bra rest lower on your back.

However, it’s important to remember that this is only a temporary fix. Your bras should never rest that low on your back for long periods. When you have time, run out and grab some booby covers so you don’t run into this dilemma in the future.

Sew in some support

Here is another amazing bra hack to have under your straps. Sew old bras into your backless dresses for some built-in support when you can’t wear a bra. Just cut off the straps and sew that bad boy right in. Just be sure to line it up properly on your chest before doing so, or this can be a bra hack gone bad.

Relieve the pressure on your shoulders

For starters, you never deserve to wear a bra that is digging into your shoulders. With a proper fit and selection of high quality bras, you can wear your bra all day and night (if you choose) without feeling any discomfort – even if you’re a DDD or larger. However, if you do have bras that are just driving you insane and can’t run out to buy some new ones, simply slide bra pads under your straps. If you don’t have any bras that have removable pads, you could always cut up an eye mask as well, which is my preferred method since they’re thinner but still get the job done.

This will add an extra layer of spongy fabric in between your bra straps and shoulders, which will instantly relieve the pressure on your shoulders. In the future, try to shop for higher quality bras, and ones with wider straps, as super-skinny ones can cause more irritation. You may also want to get professionally fitted to ensure you’re wearing the proper bra size, as this can be the root of all evil when it comes to discomfort.

Turn any bra into a strapless bra

This is definitely one of my favourite bra hacks – and it’s so handy! I’m sure we’ve all done the “strap pull down and tuck into the band” bra hack when we needed a strapless bra and none were to be found. And we probably all looked the exact same, constantly pulling up our bra because our homemade strapless bra simply wouldn’t stay up. Try this new bra hack instead.

Take an extra bra strap that you have laying around from a bra that has removable straps, and hook it into the back of your bra on one side. Bring it around your front and hook it onto the other side. This creates a tighter band that will help keep your bra in position. Of course, pull down the straps, tuck and you’re set.

Now ladies, these bra hacks are amazing but they are just temporary fixes. It’s never good to wear a bra improperly or adjust a bra in a way that it shouldn’t be adjusted. So use these bra hacks as a last minute option, but make it your mission to fill your drawers with quality bras that will never need a “do it yourself” last minute fix in the future.
