You may have, at times, seen the following message box pop up when you visited some website saying – The identity of this website or the integrity of this connection cannot be verified. If you see this message, there is nothing much you can do. Actually, this is an attempt by Windows to caution you about the website you are visiting, as it is finding some discrepancies with its certificate.

The identity of this website or the integrity of this connection cannot be verified

When a site’s Digital Certificate has expired or revoked, if the details in the certificate do not match or if its issuing authority is untrusted, you will see this message box:

Security Alert

The identity of this website or the integrity of this connection cannot be verified.

  • The security certificate is from a trusted certifying authority.
  • The security certificate date is valid.
  • The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site.

Do you want to proceed?

You will be offered three options – Yes | No | View Certificate.

If you trust the website, select Yes. If in doubt, its better to select No. If you are familiar with how certificates work, you may select View Certificate, check the details and then decide if you want to proceed.

If you would like to disable this message, you may do it as follows:

Open Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced tab.

Under Settings, you will see the following security options:

  • Check for publishers certificate revocation
  • Check for server certificate revocation

Uncheck both and click Apply.

You will now not see this message box pop up – but remember that it will leave your computer a little less secure when browsing as you will not receive such warnings.

If you wish to keep this setting On but turn it off for a site you trust, you may whitelist a site as follows:

Type inetcpl.cpl in Start Search and hit Enter to open Internet Options.

Select the Security tab > Click on Trusted sites > Click on Sites button.

Now enter the URL and click on Add.

Click Close > Apply and exit.

I hope this helps!
